The first thing I tell them to do is to start concentrating on positive affirmations.
Today I came across an e-mail on Positive Affirmations and It really hit home with me, so I wanted to share part of it with them, as well as here on my Blog.

Remember to keep repeating the statement (whatever you truly believe you can attain) and block out all that negative thinking. When you start thinking of something negative, turn it around into a positive.

Get in the right mindset, smile, laugh, become that successful person in your mind. Use those powerful positive affirmations to tell your brain what you will do, then your subconscious mind will impact your positive state.

These are mighty statements that you are now able to utilize during your self talk. You will want to start thinking as they have already happened in your life. This is a critical factor, think like this is something that has already happened in the present, today, not tomorrow, next week or next month, today.
Do you actually know what you want? You must figure this out, whether it is your goal, your ambitions, or even a wish. These positive affirmations have to come directly from you and not anyone else to become effective.
You must be clear about the actions you are going to take, (what ever you tell yourself that you can and will do) then start taking action toward accomplishing this goal. Do not let any negativity get in your way, remember repeat those positive affirmations when ever possible, as many as possible for as long as it takes. If you don’t have a direction to take you will become confused and never become successful.
